Te Matatini is a significant cultural festival and the zenith event for Māori performing arts. Held bi-annually, it is the most highly anticipated event for performers, their whānau and the mass of passionate Kapa Haka fans throughout the world. This year it was held in Hawke’s Bay and hosted by the local Iwi – Ngati Kahungunu which was a watershed event for Ngati Kahungunu as the hosting cycle takes decades – a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Iwi. Ideaology were engaged early in the process to create an iconic performing space for Ngati Kahungunu – a place to showcase their Iwi, display their most prized ‘taonga tuturu’ and a place to stage their own special cultural performances. For this brief, we delivered two Geodome’s – a twenty-seven and eighteen metre, linked space to create the Kahungunu Pavillion. The Geodome’s exceeded our client’s expectations and provided the “wow” and drawcard our client was seeking to achieve in what was an extremely competitive event. The scale of the Geodome’s gained spectator attention and interest, ultimately providing the stimulation to visit the Pavilion. The Geodome’s certainly ticked all boxes for the stakeholders
